Having only written a few entries in this blog since starting it in May 2008, I think restarting it to commemorate this date is perfect. Below is a very abbreviated list of what's gone on recently:

Needless to say, a lot has happened since May of 2008. I grew up a bit (still have a lot more to do!), fell in love with an amazing man, got a great job, and moved back to Alaska. I've been in Juneau since this past September and have seen more snow then I ever have before. We've gotten about 70+ inches this winter so far. I say 'so far' because it's snowing right now... I know, in April! That's Alaska for you!

In an effort to add a few more gray hairs to my mother's head, I've been doing a good deal of playing in the mountains. This includes ice climbing, something I would've laughed at someone telling me I'd do in high school (or more likely my face would have turn red and I'd giggle quietly... I didn't do much talking back then). I've gone skiing at least 5 times and hiked a few mountains.

I still ride horses quite a lot and volunteer with the Juneau 4H group. It's a wonderful group of girls who are dedicated to their horses. I'm also helping out with a therapeutic riding program, which is incredibly rewarding.

Tonight I start the first of 4 midnight shifts. I think every person that works shift work has their own unique method of sleeping while working nights. These methods are always a good conversation starter if you know someone who works nights and provides many hours of discussion for NWS employees. I'm learning that people's schedules can get quite elaborate and varies from those who don't really sleep to those who gradually shift their sleep cycle by an hour a day. I break my sleep into 2 segments. About 4 hours in the morning then 4 right before I go into work. That's where I'm heading now... segment number 2 is calling my name!
